<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en_US">Most bacterial species are capable of existing as surface-adhered communities encased in a matrix called biofilms. These aggregates of sessile bacteria are increasingly being associated with multiple human infections. However, the bacterial factors that contribute to biofilm formation are poorly understood. The identification of biofilm promoting factors and their control mechanisms are necessary for the efficient treatment of biofilm-mediated infections.</dim:field>
