Exploiting a niche, Lm gains access to the host cell cytosol via the pore forming toxin listeriolysin O (LLO) and infects a variety of cell types including dendritic cells (DC). Our laboratory and others have shown that optimal DC maturation occurs when Listeria gain access to the host cytosol, and this correlates with protective immunity.</dim:field>
