MIC refers to the extent to which moral concerns are central (i.e., important) to a person's self-concept, and it was important to create a new measure of this construct because a)theory suggests MIC is a major cause of moral behavior, but b) there are strong reasons to believe that current means of assessing MIC are flawed in various ways.
