<dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract" lang="en_US">It is estimated that between 10,000 and 20,000 new patients present with avascular necrosis of the femoral head each year in the United States. The current treatment for avascular necrosis is femoral head core decompression which is used to decrease the intraosseous pressure and promote vascular tissue ingrowth. There are two common techniques of core decompression that show similar clinical success. The objective of this study is to assess the difference in femoral neck strength between the single large bore core decompression and multiple small bore core decompression techniques.</dim:field>
