OM is the reason for the majority of pediatric office visits and antibiotic prescriptions for children. 80% of children under the age of 3 will experience at least one episode of OM, and a portion of these children will experience multiple OM episodes by age 7. The economic burden associated with OM is estimated to be $3-5 billion annually.
