description
Alex Sink is a 1971 graduate of Wake Forest University majoring in Mathematics. Sink went on to serve as the Chief Financial Officer for the state of Florida beginning in 2007. In 2010, Sink ran for Governor of Florida. Throughout her professional career she has maintained a connection to Wake Forest as a member of the Board of Trustees, becoming a Life Trustee in 2017. In 1993 she was the recipient of the University's Distinguished Alumni Award. In this interivew, Alex Sink discusses her years at Wake Forest beginning with why she chose to come to the University. Originally from Mount Airy, North Carolina, the journey to Winston-Salem was a big change and one she welcome due to the close knit community she found through her association with Strings, one of the social societies. Sink also provides commentary on the lack of female professional role-models for young women at the time with few women working at the University in faculty or tenure-track positions.
