Paige Meltzer (she/her) was the founding director of the Women's Center and was employed at Wake from January 2013 - May 2019. She is now working at a company in Boston, running employee resource groups. This interview centers on the close collaborative relationship between the LGBTQ and Women's Centers, and how the LGBTQ Center served as an important foundational model for the establishment of the Women's Center. Meltzer discusses the challenges of hiring staff and finding space for each of the centers -- from 2013-to 2014, the centers shared a program coordinator and a list of events. Her experience with the Centers and the Wake Forest community was largely positive and had a profound impact on her -- she notes that her experience at Wake Forest has been helpful in her current job but she also took some of the advantages of working in more inclusive spaces for granted. She has many fond memories of her time at Wake Forest and her relationships and interactions with both Center staff and the students who frequented the centers.
