Description

Dr. Richard C. Proctor came to Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1948 as an assistant resident in psychiatry at Graylyn and rose to be the department chairman before his retirement in 1985. A graduate of Wake Forest University and head cheerleader, he was a fan of the Deacons all his life. His medical specialty was how psychiatry and stress are linked. Dr. Proctor led counseling programs for the Winston-Salem police and fire department. He died in 1995 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease at age 74.
