Description
Dr. Ward Riley, Jr. came to Bowman Gray School of Medicine in April 1976 to do his postgraduate course in Sonic Medicine. He joined the staff in July as research assistant professor in the Department of Neurology. Riley was known as a pioneer in the field of ultrasonic physics. He developed an ultrasound instrument which has helped physicians study the effects of a variety of treatments to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Dr. Riley was Professor Emeritus of the Department of Neurology and Director of the B-mode Ultrasound Center before passing away on April 27, 2007.
