Dr. J.P. Rousseau is seen here viewing x-rays. He was one of the twelve original faculty members that left well-established practices in the community to become faculty members at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine. Dr. Rousseau was hired in July 1942 as Director of the Radiology Department and also become part of the newly established Private Diagnostic Clinic. The diagnostic clinic was an organized group practice used to care for private patients. Their new offices were located on the first floor of the medical school building. These doctors committed themselves to give a considerable part of their time to academic activities without financial compensation. The school could not have survived without the original twelve members.
