Rafael Alves de Lima is from Brazil and is an intended member of the Wake Forest Class of 2021. He is a Communications major, is interested in journalism, and is involved with the Wake Forest newspaper, The Old Gold and Black. At the outbreak of COVID-19, Lima was on a study abroad program in Brussels, Belgium. He talks about the the difficulties he encountered trying to return home on short notice and then about his experience having COVID-19, noticing symptoms immediately upon his return home. He describes the lonliness and feelings of isolation, but fondly recalls the support of his loved ones who helped him through his illness. Lima expresses his dissatisfaction with online classes and reflects on how the pandemic has given him the opprotunty to spend more time with and care more for his family.
