Recognition of Bicentennial Churches

Description
In commemoration of the national bicentennial, 26 Baptist churches at least 200 years old are recognized based on research by John Woodward, Director of the Baptist Historical Collection at Wake Forest University. The oldest Baptist church in the state convention is identified as Shiloh Baptist Church of the Chowan Association, known to in existence by 1729. The Sandy Creek Association is recognized as being the oldest, in existence since 1758.
