Phosphine-Mediated Ligations: A Powerful and Versatile Method for the Selective Chemical Detection of Nitroxyl
Abstract
Nitrogen oxides are a class of small molecules with profound physiological and environmental consequences. Nitric oxide (NO), the most well-known of these, is a key endogenous signaling agent effecting platelet disaggregation and vasorelaxation. Nitroxyl (HNO), the product of NO reduction and protonation, increases myocardial contractility and elicits vasodilation, likely through modifications of select thiol proteins, a physiological profile distinct from NO.
