abstract
The completion of an original creation, a novel titled A Way to Water, and a contextual analysis of the four novels that informed the creation of the novel--Frankenstein, The Street, Native Speaker,, and To the Lighthouse--fulfills the requirements for a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies. The novel created reflects the exploration of self and place, as the protagonist, a recent college graduate and Southerner, journeys across the United States. Her journey embodies the core of the Liberal Studies program--to explore human ideas and values--through her exposure to people who challenge and reinforce her personal beliefs, as well as her understanding of the world.
